5 Tips to Make your Petra Content Experience Easy
5 Tips to Make your Petra Content Experience Easy
I will be walking you through my time in Petra and what I did to score some incredible content.
Arriving at Petra
I was with a tour agency when I arrived at the Petra Guest House hotel.
had no idea the path to the treasury was right outside.
Since we arrived in the evening the experience to see the treasury would have to wait a little longer.
Things to do in the Evening
Tip 1
There will be stores right by the hotel and I would highly recommend avoiding them and walk the main street.
There is a plaza on the way to the shops that has “I love Petra” sign that’s a picture must.
Tip 2
Find a nice restaurant on your walk and have a bite to eat there.
Hotel food is good on occasion if its convenient and you don’t have much time.
I would highly suggest finding food outside the hotel to experience authentic Jordanian food.
There are some cute traditional restaurants with the right aesthetic for some cute pictures.
Settle in Early
Once you have done some shopping and eating, head back to the hotel and relax the rest of the night.
There is a cave bar at this hotel which has a great ambience but usually the tables are always full and it’s a bit warm in there.
Lighting isn’t the best but if you have portable light well then you may get some nice pictures.
If not…
Get a night cap and get ready for the next day!
Petra, the Treasury
Get your comfy but chic outfit and pack that gorgeous one for you pictures.
Tip 3
There are several “ride” options as you walk your way down to the treasury. Pick and choose 1 or all options.
This includes horses, camels, donkeys that go down and golf carts that go both ways.
All the animal rides are negotiable, golf carts are set price.
Let me tell you why…
if you want content and you are on a time crunch there is no way you will be able to explore Petra ancient city in several hours and take it in.
I did the horse ride and let me show you why this 15 minute $25 horse ride was worth it for me:
Wait for it!
Once you finally walk down a nice windy road you will finally get to the treasury and the first thing you will notice is all…the…people…
Tip 4
You will be approached by several people offering services but the one you want is the picture looking down at the treasury.
Note that this requires some climbing.
You should not pay more then $12 per person to go up and get that picture.
Wait there’s more then the Treasury
Yes folks there is more then the treasury, I know I was shocked too.
You can choose to explore more and walk further into the city and climb more stairs to see other sites like the Royal Tomb, Theater, and even the Monastery.
I was unprepared to hike, and looked cute so…
Pictures, Pictures, Pictures, that’s why so many of us travel to such beautiful places.
Trying to capture the moment .
Tip 5
In the main area if you look around you will see a lot of young kids taking pictures of other tourists.
Well they are for hire and all you have to do is ask them if they know spots for great videos and pictures.
Just like that you have a professional photographer/videographer that will take amazing content for you.
The kid I found was so great that he showed my group 3 different spots.
He didn’t want to take the money initially but I insisted, he was no more then 14 years old.
Shop, Rest, Plan
Once you are satisfied you can walk a bit on the leveled path and find some shops to grab out and eyeliner.
My friend and I ended up find a place to sit and ordered the lemon + mint drink and it was probably the worst one I had that whole trip.
Definitely get something you’d like because im sure you have been in the sun for a bit by now.
Plan accordingly when you will start your accent back to the hotel.
If you shopped and walked to the end of the pathway where you can see how far the monastery is, you have about an hours walk back.
Or you can take the gold cart back but I believe it was between $20-$30 with a wait time.
Conclusion
I would highly recommend that you take these tips into consideration and still plan on what you would like to do.
I personally would have liked 2 days to explore the city but had about 6 hours and I was pretty proud of what I was able to achieve in that short time.
Hope this was helpful and check out my Wadi Rum Post for more information on where I stayed in those Domes.
